N.A.M.E.S. Golf The Next Generation

Ross Parker the web master's son (aged 12) played in his first medal and scored Gross 158 on the Antonine course at Dullatur.  No  NR's ! and several lost balls but given some of the tee shots on the antonine a good enough performance to earn an Associate Membership of the names golf society. could this be the start of " Names Golf The Next Generation"

Mixed golf At Thornhill

Stewart "the Web master" Parker played in  the Kirkpatrick Cup (Dumfireshire open mixed Greensomes) at Thornhill recently with his partner( Ms Elizabeth Hastings) playing off 17 they had a joint  handicap of 14.5 and returned a creditable 74.5 against the par of 70 . It was played on a warm day with occasional showers. Thornhill's famous rough was as always knee high in places but acording to the web masters partner it would have been preferable to the bunkers the web master kept finding for her to play out of.
The web master's caddy, Ross ,now a junior member at Dullatur , performed well although not laughing out loud at some of the golf played was always going to be a problem. The winning score was i believe net 62!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (He dosen't believe he knows)
Ross (the webmasters son)

Borders Battle

Robert and Douglas kept the NAMES golf  flag flying when they entered the Douglas Cup (4 ball better ball) competition at Thornhill Dumfriesshire . Sparkling golf was played by both on a beautiful day and when the Stapleford points were counted up they had amased a total of 43 and were in the hunt.
As usual though a total of 50 points won in the end depriving them of their glory.
Well done and well played to the boys who enjoyed their day on a course in great condition.

Off to a flyer at Leuchars

Its not only the RAF who fly at Leuchers as the 3 man NAMES golf team got off to a flier at St. Michael's at Leuchars in Fife.

Joe McCartney , Douglas Morton and full time pro Tony O'neil McCann finished with a team score of 64 with Joe having a 3 under par 67 to get his handicap cut to 18.1.

They thought they might be in with a shout of the trophy but some of  the local banditos came in with a net 57.

Well done to all who took part.

Dullatur New Greens Update

The new greens at Dullatur are now in play see Dullatur photos page.

Titanic struggle at Dullatur

Fresh from his efforts at Thornhill on the Saturday , the web master teamed up with the Doc to take on Robert and Douglas on the Antonine course at Dullatur.
The Rain poured from the heavens as they set off but this did not appear to effect Bob and Doug who were 2 up after 2 . Despite getting it back to level a birdie at the seventh by Robert helped to get them back to two up at the turn. They went 3 up at the tenth when the Web master played the wrong ball losing the hole. A sparkling display of golf by Alex from then on including hiting a 6 iron to 2 inches at the 179 yard par 3 15th put Alex and Stewart 1 up with 3 to play.  Douglas then holed a 30 foot uphill swinging putt for  6 net 5 at the 16th to put the match level with 2 to play. With Alex the only one to find the green at the 224 yard par 3 seventeenth a two putt won the hole and the last was halved in 5 to secure a one hole win for Alex and Stewart.
Wet and in some cases sore they all retired to the club house for refreshments.
By that time the rain had gone off and the Sky was blue.

Ton up at Thornhill

The web master played in The Kirkpatrick cup ( mixed foresomes ) at Thornhill and as a past winner had hopes of being in the prize list this year. A great day for golf light winds and sunshine with only one shower on the way round. The course was looking in good condition even after the heavy rain we have had recently .
That is unfortunatly where the good news ended as Stewart handicap 11 and Liz handicap 17 managed to punt it round in 100 gross .
What makes this feat worse is that it was done with the same ball . We tried heavy rough . trees and burns but no matter how we tried we just kept finding the little B*****d.
The web masters son Ross was his caddie for the day and now thinks golf is an amusing spectator sport . He's probably correct in this case
He probably also increased his vocabulary.

Oh well better luck next year.

Nip and Tuck at Dullatur

The web master and the Doc fought out a titanic struggle on the Dullatur Antonine course . The web master went into an early lead but the doc had it all square at the 9th . The lead changed hands several times but the match was finaly won by the web master with a 3 wood to 10 feet at the 224 yard par 3 17th to win 2 and 1.

Yes she is a relation to Big stewart the Web master , you can see the family resemblance but not unfortunatly in the golfing department.
Unfortunate for me and fortunate for her.

For this achievement she has been awarded Associate membership of the names golf society and with her father Bill Parker are founder members of the Names golf society Australia Branch

Dullatur Update
Due to the dry weather we have had during march all the work below has been completed and the course is looking in as good condition as it been for a long time. It's not very often that you have to use the dry winter to repair the damage done by the wet summer weather.
The new greens are looking great and have already been cut so if the weather stays half decent then they will be in play on or ahead of schedule.
The new and revamped bunkers also look great and I'm sure they will be visited by me on numerous occasions throughout the season.
In particular the new 12th green moved forward and redesigned looks  superb  from the tee vith the Campsie hills giving a superb backdrop .
The New bunkers at the front and the drop at the back left will concentrate the mind when your hitting a long iron from the tee.
The new 14th hole looks great . For any of you who remember the old green in front of the burn the new one is bigger protected in front by 2 large bunkers slopes away from you with a lage drop of the back to the burn.
The teeing area for the now short 15th has been rebuilt from scratch and with the new green and bunkers this should be a great short hole.
A surprise at the 16th as a lot of the spoil from the works has been used to construct an area that could be used as a tee to turn the hole into a par 5 . It has been created to the left of the tee at the moment going back and left towards the resovoir.

Dullatur Changes Go ahead

Work started on the relaying of the remaining greens on the Dullatur Carrickstone course. A meeting was held for the members to decide on the moving of the 14th green . The councils proposal was that the green was moved to the right and forward making the hole 152 yards in stead of 171 yards. As well as moving the green forward the proposal also included moving the green away from the wall on the left of the hole over which housing is going to be built in the near future. After a heated discussion there was an amendment from the floor that the hole be done away with all together and the old holes be reinstated .This would make the 14th now a short par 4 with the green short of the burn followed by a par 3 over the burn. This vote was carried and the work is to go ahead immediatly on rebuilding a new green short of the burn at the foot of the hill and reinstating the old tees .

Changes at Dullatur

Due to the very wet conditions this year and the continued deterioration in the remaining 8 old greens on the Carrickstone Course , it has been decided to replace them all starting September.
Temporary greens will  be in play for the holes concerned and all competitions will be transfered to the Antonine course till further notice from September.
The greens being replaced are
8th, 9th, 11th 12th 14th 15th 17th 18th..

It has now come to light that the field running all the way up the left hand side of the 14th has just received planning permision for housing and as such the green will have to be moved for safety reasons . A EGM is being held in September in order that the members can give their views on this matter and suggest alternative sites for the green.
The couse manager and head greenkeeper will also be on hand to discuss the course in general .
An evenings entertainment not to be missed by members and committee alike.

On form doc does the Double at the Briggs

On  form Alex beat the web master at Bishy in a nip and tuck contest.
Two par 4's halved the first then  Stewart won the second with a 3 . Alex immediatly hit back with a EAGLE 2 at the third . The  4th and the 5th were  halved in 5 . Stewart  went one  up with a  3 at the sixth.the seventh was halved in 5 but a 4 at the long eigth and a Birdie 4 at the par 5 ninth put Alex 1 up at the turn .Alex then won the 10th to go two up but Stewart came back with a 4 at the long 11th. Alex then won the 12th to go 2 up and went 3 up with his stroke at the 13h.The par 3 14th was halved but a 4 at the 15th got one back for Stewart  . Stewart then went for glory over the water at the 16th and put a 3 wood to 20 feet but then 3 putted downhill from the back of the green for a half in 5. Stewart then won the 17th with a 3 to be 1 down going up the last .Two good drives down the middle were followed by two good second shots . Both shots plugged at the front of the green with the pin at the back . After chips and putts the hole was halved with Alex winning by one hole.
